   Well, for one thing - don't ever call that store again!  The IIc can 
utilize any external PC-style Hayes-compatible modem up to 19,200 bps.  
The cable is very simple to make (many electronic stores carry 5 pin din 
to DB25 modem cables for about $10 - $15.)  The (255) IIc supposedly has 
serial problems over 1200 baud but my 2 units function fine at 14,400 bps.
Shareware like ZLink works great but a commercial program, ProTerm 3.1 
works even better and has a lot more features.  PT3.1 is available from 
its manufacturer, InTrec (I don't have the number handy - the FAQ might 
have it).  ZLink is available from most ftp sites.
