   1) Did you transfer in BINARY mode at each and every step? If you
didn't, the files won't be usable and you must reget them in BINARY
mode. End of story.

   2) What else are you doing? If you want us to help with downloading
problems, you must be *far* more specific-- which programs are you using
to get the file from Caltech, how are you getting the files to your
Apple II, and what transfer options were specified at each and every
step. There are far too many download programs, paths, and the like
to give help other than the most generic: Transfer Shrinkit files
in BINARY mode.
