If you mean "drop the machine" from a short distance I believe that
only applied to early models of the Apple III which had reliability 
problems with connectors.

If you're talking about gently pressing down on each socketed chip to
ensure it is making proper connection, that is advice that is not
exclusive to the Apple II.
