The official maximum is four physical drives (due to power supply and
signal loading limits).  In most cases, you should be able to run with
six drives on the IIgs disk port.

You cannot connect more than two 5.25" drives (any type), or more than
two Apple 3.5 Drives (or equivalent, such as the SuperDrive).

You _may_ connect more than two UniDisk 3.5 drives, or other intelligent
SmartPort devices (such as the Chinook/Sequential SmartPort hard drive
for the IIc).  The theoretical limit is 127 intelligent SmartPort
devices.

(The Apple 3.5 Drive is a dumb device.  It looks like a SmartPort device
as far as applications are concerned, but its operation is directly
controlled by the host computer.)
