I had gotten as far as negotiating a PPP connection, and had written some
very, very preliminary code to send an IP datagram which crashed my machine
when I tried it. I put the project on hold soon after. (I'd set up
a process running on a school machine which listened on a port for a
message from my GS, which unfortunately never came.)

My project was independent of Derek's. Like everyone else, I'd heard
rumors of GS/TCP for quite a while, and finally decided to try it myself.
I figured that the project would be worthwhile even if the rumors were
true, since I'd get some valuable programming experience.

Part of the reason I shelved my project was because of reports that GS/TCP
was very close to being released. Now it's well over a year later, and
very little further has been heard. I'm tired of waiting.
