He's not talking about main memory.  The computer only has a limited amount
of direct page memory and it is this limit that prevents you from
multitasking more than a few IIGS applications.  New software is frugal,
taking only 4K or so of this mem, but hogs like AWGS and HyperCard eat
up on the order of 16K.  They are not multitask friendly.
