This one keeps coming back. Since I work for SQC, let me set the record
straight. The original source code for Appleworks is still intact
somewhere either at QC, Claris or the programmers' respective homes.

The problem we had with creating a new version is that the source code
did not run after compiling. In fact, we had trouble compiling it.
When we got back to the original programmers of Appleworks GS (who
worked for Styleware and Claris) we discovered that there really is no
source code for Appleworks GS 1.1 as we know it. The reason for this is
that instead of rewriting the code, they performed quick patches to the
program to make it work. I'll bet Appleworks GS is about 30% larger (in
file size) than it needs to be.

Even patching in a new splash screen caused the program to crash, hence
why it still bears the Claris name when you boot it. The program is
still useful, and usable and it's still for sale. But we are unable to
make any future changes to the program.
