    Double-Hi-Res support was only one new feature, I believe the 
revision motherboard also added a special video-signal to one or 
more of the internal slots (slot-7?). The Video Overlay Card, as
one example, requires the newer revision motherboard to function.

    Apple did offer a free upgrade, by swapping the motherboard.
The original board was labeled 820-0064-A (revision A) and the
update is 820-0064-B (revision B). Two notes: the third revision,
although it's labeled 820-0073-A, is the equivalent of the Rev-B.
The Rev-A was only sold in the United States, PAL versions marked
820-0064-A already support the Rev-B features. At this point, I
highly doubt Apple still offers the upgrade free or otherwise.
