Re: Apple Drops Backward Compatibility for Next MacOS

Your assertion that there is no music synthesis on the Mac is wrong.

The QuickTime Music driver, for one, Halestorm is another (that I have
used in two game products on the Mac). There are three or four MOD
players, one available as a free library for use in games. There are odd
things like OutOfPhase and SuperCollider for people wanting to play with
algorithmic synthesis. I have the SuperCollider demo on my 8500 and I
think it is amazing, a full featured DSP language and just-in-time
compiler running in real time (up to a point... depends on how complicated
an expression or program oyu feed it).

One can argue about the various quality level and performance tradeoffs
taken by each of these approaches, but then this is a different discussion
from "there is no music synthesis on the Mac..." In any event it is
pretty ludicrous to assert that all a Mac can do is "record and play back
samples."
