You are missing the fact that you are sending GRAPHICS to the printer. The
volume of data required is so great, that the buffer fills long before the
whole page is sent, so you still have to wait for it to print. If you send
ASCII text to the printer, as you would do with Classic Appleworks, the
volume of data is small enough to fit in the buffer, except on very long
documents, and even then, the printer will be printing for a while after
the last of the document is sent.
