Smartport driver for superdrive?

Several years ago, AE had a 1.6MB GCR driver for their HD 3.5"
floppy drive.  Since the AE drive used the same mechanism as
the Apple drive, how difficult would it be to create a 1.6MB
driver for a superdrive connected to the smartport.

Superdrives are a dime a dozen used, but the controller card is
not.  It would be very useful if it could be driven at 1.6MB
on a standard GS.

It won't read and write PC disks, but the additional storage should
make it useful in and of itself.  It'd make worthwhile a worthwhile
shareware product too.
