Apple shipped the IIe's with Amdek/Hitachi Color 1's and Samsung
color monitors for a while. I'd avoid both of these. The Amdek's
80 column text is fuzzy. Two of the four Samsungs I had in my lab
spectacularly self-destructed with great sizzling and clouds of smoke.
The other two just died quietly.
I recall the 1702 worked just fine. Computist had an article on how
run a sound cable off the IIe speaker pins on the motherboard. It
involved using an 8 ohm to 8 ohm isolation transformer to isolate the
computer from an output jack. Then cable the output jack to the aux
input of a stereo amp or suitable monitor.
