Wizardry Gold is the Win 3.1/95/NT or Mac version of Wizardry 7.
(Basically, the dos version running in a window, but not very well.
I've run into a few bugs in my version (v1.0 for Win*), though most of
those are due to the conversion to Win*, not the original game.)
However, Sir-Tech is selling a Wizardry 1-3 bundle for PCs that is
probably very similar to Wiz 1 for the PC of 10-12 years ago, which
had worse graphics than the Apple II version.
[I own Wiz 5 for my Apple II and Wiz Gold on CD-Rom for my Pentium
box. I managed to go three days of playing Wiz 7 before I hacked out
the savegame file format and maxxed out my characters :) Wiz Gold gets
a lot of coolness points for including the whole hintbook for free on
the CD-Rom where you can browse it at will. Charging $20 for a book on
"how to have a chance at beating this game sucks. Still haven't managed
to finish Wiz 5, but that's mostly for lack of time. Good game, that.]
One of the nicer things about all these games on CD-- they're MUCH
harder to pirate. Sure, someone with a CD burner at home could copy
them, but can you imagine a FTP site full of 650MB disk images? It'll
be probably 10 years before home users could even have a chance of
downloading that in some semblance of speediness. There'll still be
a bunch of people trying to pirate the "classics," and they'll still
be people yelling at them to not pirate copyrighted stuff. :)
