The HP DeskWriter series can be used with a IIgs but only with GS/OS
programs that use GS/OS printer drivers (AWGS, Spectrum, etc).  To
work with GS/OS programs, you will need either the Harmonie (Vitesse)
or Independence (Seven Hills) GS/OS printer drivers.  You might also
want the program Pointless (WestCode) which increases the quality of
the output.

The DeskWriter series really can not be used with Prodos 8 programs
(AW, Proterm, etc); someone has cobbled together something that more
or less works but it has not / will not (??) been released.

While I am not sure, I believe the DW 660C has a serial port so that
it would connect with the printer port of the IIgs using a Mac to
IW-I (not IW-II) printer cable.

For the IIgs, the DeskJet series is a better option if you wish to
print from both Prodos and GS/OS programs.  To print from GS/OS
program you will still need either Harmonie or Independence - and
Pointless if you wish.  And you will be able to print from any Prodos
program that allows you to access the printer codes (AW, Proterm,
Word Perfect IIgs, etc) and most others as well.  The HP DeskJets
after the 500/550 series (like the 520/560, 600s, etc) will require a
parallel interface card for the IIgs or a serial/parallel converter.

One program that will not print to a HP DW or DJ (except the 500 with
the Epson emulation cartridge) is PrintShop.
