Applied Engineering did make an internal modem, but they are only
available used. Generally, you need a Super Serial card or clone to
connect the modem to the IIe. Sequential Systems still sells such a SSC
clone.
>>what is the max. baudrate i should go for?
With a stock Super Serial card you can count on 9600 bps, 19.2K is
possible. Using the Turbo ASB card, which updates the SSC, you can go much
higher.
>>what is good software which would turn my apple into a vt100, and which
could do a telnet and ftp?
I believe that Modem.MGR which is commercial software will work on the II+
and do what you like. Most software now sold requires an enhanced IIe,
unfortunately, so ProTerm and even ZLink would not serve.
There are articles on my Web site that discuss the Turbo ASB. Also a
listing of programs on the Modem Starter Disk I distribute, for novice
Apple II telecommunication users, who need some software to work with
their II's.
