Help with connecting Duodisk to IIgs

I have a ROM 03 Apple IIgs with 2MB memory and a RAMFAST SCSI Rev. C card
in slot 7.  I've tried to daisy chain an Apple Duodisk to it but so far,
it won't work.  The serial number of the Duodisk is 5xxxxx which is above
the 4xxxxx types that require a Duodisk controller card in the IIgs for
them to work.  An apple manual (my 5.25 inch drive manual) said that I
could daisy chain a duodisk to the end of two 3.5" drives.... I am trying
to do it to ONE 3.5" drive and it won't work... nobody said it shouldn't
(yet).  help help help
