I don't have a IIgs, but it sounds kinda like you've got the wrong
cable. You might just need a null-modem adapter. Or, MAYBE you can
simulate (the closest word I can think of) one, like I do on my Super
Serial Card: change the (Serial Port / Communications Mode?) control
panel on the IIgs from "modem" to "terminal", or "printer", or
whatever the heck the alternative is.
