I have one of those modems too. If you read the manual carefully you'll
discover that it will do 9600 only when connected to another V-Series or
similiar Hayes modem . :-( :-(
I too was sad when I discovered this.
Hayes offers a upgrade/exchange, but I never checked on what it would cost.
I suspect it is more than the value of the modem (these days).
Anyone want to buy my modem? :-)
