United we stand
I usually hate to join in flame wars, being relatively new to this
newsgroup, but even newbies can see this one has gone overboard.
I think Dr. Tom should stay. He may not have the technical knowledge
of the programmers in this group, but that shouldn't matter. In fact,
from what I've observed, he always tries to help.
As was said in "The Triumph of the Nerds" show that aired on PBS,
Woz and Jobs intended the II to be a computer that users as well
as hackers can enjoy. The majority of comp.sys.apple2 users cannot
code. That's not a sin and Dr. Tom shouldn't be perpetually labelled
"Dr. Wrong" because of it.
We should realize that everyone has something useful to contribute.
Joe Kohn, Nathan Mates, Dr. Tom, the regular nontechnical user that
posts, even readers of this newsgroup that don't post. Every user
that stumbles into this newsgroup that finds something worthwhile
prolongs the viability of the Apple II. Every user that is flamed
away diminishes it.
The model regular of comp.sys.apple2 is David Empson. He has
valuable technical expertise, yet he never flames anyone. He is
both helpful and tolerant and patient as well (often posting replies
to the same question to many different people). Can't we all be
a little like this? Can't we all just get along?
