Re: Running a ][+/e from a Mac ??
For a while, Apple sold an Apple //e card that enabled users of the
Macintosh LC family to run Apple2 software. I assume this was targeted at
schools with an installed base of Apple2 software and data. Sun
Remarketing (Utah) still lists the card in their catalog.
I never used one, but I'm told that you could connect a 5 1/4" floppy disk
for media compatibility and partition the Macintosh Hard Drive for use as
a ProDos volume.
A cheaper solution I used was to connect my Macintosh (the original 128K
version) to my Apple II+ via the serial ports. A simple "PR#1" and "IN#1"
command allowed the Macintosh to serve as the operator's console. The
Macintosh was running MacTerminal. The only custom software on the Apple
II was a machine language program to allow the transfer of BASIC programs
and TEXT files from the Mac to the Apple II and vice versa. Both machines
booted from their respective floppy disks. Please note that this was a
text-only interface. The purpose of this kludge was simply to save space;
the Apple2 occupied a wooden box under the desk, instead of the limited
desktop space.
By the time I upgraded my Macintosh, I no longer had any need for the
Apple II. Thus, this system became more attic debris several years ago.
Good luck! I hope this was helpful.
