   You need 256Kx1 DRAM chips (must use CAS-before-RAS refreshing
and at least 150ns fast). Alltech Electronics sells a set of 24, 
just the number required to fully populate your Apple board, for 
US$24. Used though, these chips should be available for mere pennies, 
in fact you can often find them on old junked IBM PC motherboards.
(ie, 8088, 8086 or 286 motherboards; often socketed too)

   Populating the Apple board will only bring your Apple IIgs up
to 1.25MB however. If your serious about upgrading it's memory, I'd 
suggest spending a little more extra and investing in at least 4MB 
of RAM. Sequential Systems sells the RAM GS board (fully populated 
with 4 megabytes) for $89.95 as an example. I'd highly recommend the 
extra memory, even System 6.0.1 needs about 2MB to run smoothly.
