That is not true. At least not since the Laser 128 series came out.
Apple did sue Laser, but lost. Since then, most software has been
rewritten to be friendly to clone ROMs like Laser's.
 
If a program won't break on a Laser, is it not possible for someone
to write a ROM that uses a similar technique?
 
The author of this emulator invites people to look at his ROM to
verify that it isn't illegal.
