As Joe said it is possible that the magnet is missing and the printer
"thinks" that the cover is off. You did not say that the light flashed
when paper is fully loaded into the printer. The light will flash until
paper goes through the "paper-out" sensor. Are you seeing the light
when paper is loaded into the printer? If paper is in the printer it is
possible that the paper sensor is bad.
When you load paper into an IW II all that is necessary is to put it on
the tracks at the back of the printer. When the printer is started you
push the "form feed" button and the paper will advance to the correct
position. Once it is in position push the "select" button to get the
select light turned on.
ImageWriter II printers have an annoying habit of jamming when the
output end of the paper has been cut off and the remainder of the paper
is left in the printer and gets curled. A neat solution to this problem
is to turn the knob to back the paper end fully out of the region under
the platin roller. It is best to do this with the power turned off. If
you look into the top rear of the printer as you roll the knob backwards
you will see the change from white to black as the paper exits the
roller region. When you want to print, simply press the "form feed"
button and the paper will advance quickly to the start position. One
advantage of this procedure (aside from eliminating jams) is that the
paper always ends up at exactly the same position every time.
