Apple II's can be connected to the net. What will be needed is a
communications program (Proterm), a modem (any Hayes compatible
external up to 14.4), a serial card (Apple SuperSerial Card), the
proper cabling, and an Internet Service Provider that offers shell
(text) accounts.
The Apple will act like a dummy terminal interacting with the net
with the unix commands provided in the shell account. Email (mail,
elm, etc), usenet news (rn, trn, etc), www (lynx), ftp (ftp, ncftp),
gopher (gopher), etc can all be accessed using the unix shell
commands. About the only thing a II user can not do is graphically
surf the web (but can textually surf the web).
