In the IIGS, the 65816 is socketed, so you can pull it out with a
screwdriver. However, merely replacing the one on your motherboard
won't work for a few reasons: the 14Mhz chips are square, but the
motherboard socket is rectangular, and the motherboard is still tied
to 2.5Mhz.
To effectively use a 14Mhz processor, you must first have an
accelerator card, which handles the job of runing a 65816 faster than
the motherboard is designed for. Your only choices are the Transwarp
GS and Zip GSX. Once you get a faster 65816, you'll need to get an
oscillator 4X faster than the chip (i.e. 56Mhz here), and manually
upgrade the card. Off my page of Apple II Resources, you can find
