In older Apple II OS parlance, $0027 translates to "I/O Error", as
in "your disk has a problem."
What kind of HD do you have, and when was your last backup? You
should investigate making one as soon as possible, and then running
a disk checker program, such as ProSEL-16. ProSEL-16 can also scan
your HD for bad blocks, which should prevent START.GS.OS from being
written over bad parts of the disk.
HDs do fall apart eventually; yours may be in that phase now. If
you can't get it recognized (do you have a RamFAST card? If so, then
hold down '0' on the numeric keypad on boot to see what that card
thinks about the drive), you may have to reformat and try and use it
more, but it'd be likely to croak permanently sooner rather than
later.
