Hello,
Unfortunately, you two are at each other's throats again. I'm
not going to side with either of you, but instead I'd like to offer some
thoughts and opinions on some things. The issue of the software being
copyrighted, etc...... is beyond me as I don't have a GS and I haven't seen it, so I
will leave that to the people who have seen it or used it.
One thing that sticks out in the posts, is that Joe, you seem to
blaming your lack of sales of your game disks on Mr. Turley's Pacmania
disk being present and available on the net. That indeed may be
partially true, but I can offer some reasons why it may not be completely
true. First, you are dealing with games that probably are a decade older
or more, dating back to the early 80's for some of the games, especially
Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. And so between then and now, a lot of us
probably played those games for years and years, plus they were
originally for the 8-bit Apple II's, so IIGS owners may not want such old
games since they do not take advantage of it's capabilities (I'll refer
you to that post by someone looking for IIGS versions of some old arcade
classics). I know of one other factor, that holds true here in the Bay
Area, and maybe other places: The games can be purchased somewhere else
besides SSII and from where I got some of my games (and I note that was
long before you had them at SSII), the prices are lower as well.
I think, Joe, you may have over estimated how many people would
buy those old games you are selling. A great many of us might have the
games. For example I already had for the Apple II before you started
selling the Atarisoft games: Robotron 2084, Stargate, Donkey Kong,
Gremlins, and Track and Field. Add to that for my old Atari system:
Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Defender, Jungle Hunt, Joust, and I had
no incentive to buy any of the Atarisoft games you are selling.
IMHO, I think you might have been a little harsh and unfair to
blame your lack of sales of your disks squarely on Mr. Turley. Like I
said other factors may have contributed.
One final thing: Having been on CSA2 for over a year now, I note
the differences in how you Joe and Mr. Turley handle your support of the
Apple II. It's nice to even have people suporting the Apple II, through
SSII and through other things that the both of you try and do for the A2
community. It'd be a shame that the both of you have to be at each
other's throat. Unfortuantely, if you go to court, someone will lose,
and I'm sure that person will not be happy about it, and we could lost a
valuable memeber of the community because of it.
I hope Joe, you have not taken this as a personal attack. I see
it as offering a different viewpoint, just to clarify what you may be
thinking. I hope you two can settle your differences once again, so we
can go about supporting our Apples rather than fighting.
