Well an Apple IIgs emulator could be written for it just as it could
be written for any other computer with sufficient CPU power. But it would
lack hardware support for certain IIgs features that would be difficult
to emulate in software, such as the ensoniq doc and scanline interrupts.
In short, it would be like SoftPC. In my opinion what we should be
going for is something that relates to a IIgs the same way that a
PowerMac relates to a Mac - seamless integration, 100% compatibility.

If I can't unplug my HD from my IIgs, plug it into the new machine, and,
after cycling power, boot System 6 from the HD, it's not an Apple II
compatible. I don't mean to imply that is the sole requirement, but it
is *a* requirement. If I can't pick any IIgs demo at random and have it
work exactly like it does on a IIgs, the the new machine isn't an Apple
II compatible in my opinion.
