Last fall, I bought two PROFILE hard drives on the net. One has a bad
power supply. Goal was to upgrade the PROFILE to a modern SCSI hard drive.
Last week, this was done successfully. The 40 meg Profile HD is now
booting my IIgs.
Here's what was done:
1. Opened, removed the 5 meg Seagate HD that is stock for Profile. Also
removed the Profile Analog card.
2. Bought a SCSI INTERNAL CABLE HARNESS ($8 used, A+ Technologies)
Hacked two holes for the 50-pin SCSI connectors in the back wall
of the Profile.
3. Soldered Molex-4 female connectors to the Profile power supply: one
for the SCSI HD, one for a 1.5" fan.
4. Installed orange panel-mounted neon indicator lamp on front panel of
Profile case (115vac, to indicate when power goes in.)
5. Installed a yellow LED and green LED on front panel of PROFILE.
These indicate +12vdc and +5vdc output from power supply.
6. Installed Quantum 40 meg HD inside, with connectors for: (a) power,
(b) 50-pin internal SCSI, and (c) in-use front panel red LED.
7. Reassembled casing; Connected; it works! Enjoying its classic Apple
II beige styling...
