Memory Upgrade Virgin

Hello everyone!

I realize this may seem a silly question, but, as I stated I am a memory
upgrade virgin.  I'm finally in need of more memory on my hard drive - I
currently am using a Mac Quadra 605 8/160. Is hard drive memory only
available externally?  (i.e. I have to buy another hard drive).  I will
also be adding more RAM. I know I can add these internally.  I thought all
this time that I was supposed to install some sort of card/board for hard
drive memory, but my friend told me I can only add to it externally.  At
any rate, any education (should be easy, I know) you can provide me with
is really appreciated.  Recommendations would be most welcome as well.
