Could you please explain what you mean when you say "that is the end of
the game for this particular file"? Does it mean that you get a $0201
error message, or that the program crashes, or that the file becomes
corrupt? Please elaborate.

The load is aborted with a message of not having sufficient memory.
I have 1.5M GS-RAM. To process the .GIF file, I have to go to ImageQuant
and use a scale of 1:2 or 1:4 to view the file.
If  Convert3200 allowed scaling at the BEGINNING before loading (like
ImageQuant does it), it would avoid this problem.
This has nothing to do with swift-booting ar easy access which pfresednts no
problem at all.
