Are you sure it isn't saying "Cannot allocate HANDLE" (not HANDLER)?
If so, it just doesn't have enough memory to do what you are asking.

AppleScan GS is a developement version that was provided to developers
as a demonstration.  It was never completed.  I seem to remember that
one of its missing features was the ability to save the scanned image.

You might be able to use a screen capture utility to save the picture.

No.  Are you sure that version is right?  The version I have (from the
System 6.0 Golden Master CD) says 1.0d1 in the source code for the
About box.

Not that I know of.  The driver (for use with the Apple SCSI card) has
been provided since System 6.0, so the main problem is documentation
on how to talk to the scanner using the driver.  The source code to
AppleScan would provide a fair amount of this information, but
probably isn't sufficient.
