Sounds like something's come loose, so the connection to it is
flakey when cold, but when things expand as they've warmed up, the
connections are fine. I suspect the socketing of ram chips, but it
may be something else.

Here's how I'd go about checking this problem:

- From a _cold_ (literally, in your case), run a ram checker program.
My AE GS-Ram+ has a program on 3.5" disk to do so; AWGS 1.1 also does.
See how your ram's going.

- If that fails, open up the system, and check all of the connections.
For each socketed chip, especially those on your ram card, if
applicable, press them firmly in. You might hear some 'creaking' as
they go back in, but don't push hard enough to crack the boards.

In pushing on chips on cards, you'll want to pull out the cards
first and lay them flat on a table or something. While they're out,
check the gold 'finger' contacts. If they're pretty dirty, clean them
off-- the recommended cleaner is rubbing alcohol (less than a dollar
at your local supermarket) applied with q-tips.

Reinsert everything and see how things go.
