Regarding libraries for dialogs/UI. I've been evaluating a few of the more well known cross-platform UI libraries and I think GTK+ is probably the way to go. It's relatively simple and keeps a more consistent look across platforms. It supports skinning which could provide for some really cool designs for the UI. wxWidgets doesn't really support skinning though it's lightweight and uses the OS' native controls. Qt is meh. Also, GTK+ is C and will mix well with KEGS code methinks.
Personally, I like the current KEGS UI. It displays quickly on screen, is easy to use and should be easy to extend. For the type of application KEGS is I see little need for unnecessary eye candy such as skin-ability or a plethora of menus and icons to click for setting options. It tends to be distracting from whats really going on in the emulator window. As long as there are decent keystroke settings for common operations I think it's fine.
If you really feel the need to program KEGS how about some debugger options like a watch window to see the state of the hardware while KEGS runs?
Just my 2 bits worth. Cheers, Mike T
