FWIW:
I recently came into a wonderful hard drive array that only a clever
student could conjure up. However, it only had one SCSI port, and I
definitely couldn't put it at the end of the chain, or I'd have to be
plugging my CD ROM into another machine.
After various phone calls to cable suppliers, it was recommended that I
simply go to the nearest electronics store and buy ribbon cable, 2 female
and 1 male plugs, and make my own splitter.
The only caveat made known by all was to be sure to use a vice so that the
crimping would be done evenly. I did this, and lo and behold, it worked on
the first try. It still ended up costing $25 in the end, but, in lieu of the
the non-availability of what I wanted, and given the fun I had making it
[it's always fun if it works :-)], I'd say that using the ribbon cable is
less difficult than I imagined.
Or did I just experience dumb beginner's luck? :-)
