Here is a test to determine whether or not the IIgs recognizes your
parallel printer interface card:

1. Start your system by booting a ProDOS diskette. (i.e. stay away from
GS/OS)

2. Go to the BASIC prompt. Go to the Control Panel and Set Slot 1 to "Your
Card".

3. Turn OFF the machine. Put your parallel printer interface card in Slot
1. (Turning OFF the machine also lets the change to the CP setting for
Slot 1 take effect the next time you start.)

4. Start your system again and go to the BASIC prompt.

5. Go to the monitor (CALL -151).

6. Do a C100L to get a disassembly listing starting at $C100 ...

If you get garbage (like a bunch 00's and code that doesn't make sense),
then the IIgs does not recognize the card in Slot 1.

If you get E2 40
               70 25
               ....
and a C129L shows
               48
               48
                20 54 C1
                ....
then you are still, for some reason, set to the IIgs built-in firmware for
Slot 1.

If, however, you get something else that looks like reasonable code,
then the IIgs is able to access the on-card ROM. If your printer still
does not respond to simple PR#1, LIST, etc. commands, it seems likely that
something about the setting of the six Dip switches is wrong. Either that,
or there is a bad IC on the card.
