    It does not sound crazy.

    When a Zip-GS 10/64 was swapped-in for a '9/32, similar problems
cropped up on our IIgs. The cure was a power supply fix-- not a new,
"heavy duty" power supply.

Mainly, there are two problems: (1) Noise on the +5V line and,
perhaps, on the +12V line; and, (2) The voltages getting to the cards in
the slots is too low. The cure is to fatten-up the +5V, +12V, and Ground
leads running from the power supply to the connector-- swap-in #14 gauge
or #12 gauge stranded copper leads-- and, probably, on the under side of
the motherboard, run #18 gauge leads from the power supply connector +5V
and +12V points to the corresponding points on Slots 3 and 7.
