Twelve FEET???  Surely you only need about three feet to get a
reasonable distance away from the computer.

I doubt a cable that long would work reliably.  The internal game
connector uses simple TTL and analog interface signals, which would be
distorted by a long unshielded cable (picking up and/or radiating
noise).
