Disappearing GS/OS filetypes caused by Print 3200?

I've been having a problem with filetypes disappearing in
Finder 6.0.1 for over a week. That is when I select 'View by Kind'
within a window or request specific file information using 'Icon Info',
there is a blank space shown. Not all filetypes are affected, only
certain kinds such as: "Unknown", "Icons", "Macintosh Application",
"Applesoft BASIC program", "Finder data", etc. Other filetype remain
unaffected.

I finally tracked down the source of the problem, it seems to be
BRCC's "Print 3200" program. After it's installed on one of my partitions
it updates the Desktop file in the /Icons folder (or creates one if none
exists). Copyright information and the path the program is located is
added to the Desktop file. The problem is, as soon as this occurs, I
experience the problem described above -- a blank space replaces certain
filetypes in the Finder. If I purge the Desktop file it's created, the
problem is gone, but _returns_ as soon as I launch Print 3200 again (it
updates the Desktop file each time). Can someone tell me if this is a bug
in Print 3200 or perhaps something else with my setup?
