You shouldn't have any problem using the Power Mac to do stuff, though
you might notice a slowdown while the GS is accessing the Mac's drive.

I'm not sure if Apple still makes it, but they used to sell an
add-on card for the ImageWriter II that allowed it to be placed on
a network. With such a configuration, neither computer would be
directly connected to the ImageWriter, but both could print
to it.
