re:Sider Multi-OS
Qsilver of Salvatore fame prayed to the cybergods:
QEN| Does anyone know how to make a Sider multi-os drive work as a
| plain ProDOS hard drive? Someone told me it was a ROM change, but
| I don't know how to go about it any more. Also, can this drive
| work with the RAMFast? I'd like to be running that, since it's a
| heck of a lot faster than the standard controller card.
My understanding of the above (and my Sider 10 meg):
-- True mono-OS stuff requires new hardware, which is hard to find.
-- I don't think so; RAMFast is SCSI, Sider is SASI. I have heard of
people making custom chips for their cards but...
The only thing I can suggest is to shut out as much of the non-ProDOS
stuff as possible. When installing, select L)owest amount for DOS,
Pascal, and CPM, which will yield enough set aside for DOS's startup
stuff and little beyond the partitioning for the other two OS's. I'm
using 9.895 megs of my Sider for ProDOS, which is a little more than the
manufacturer intended because using the 20 meg installer on my 10 meg
drive I set the Pascal partition at the very end of the drive (and thus
the space the installer tries to set aside for Pascal physically does
not exist but the info for that space does), fooling it into letting me
have more of the drive for my pagan purposes.
