Apple ][ 5.25" and Apple/Mac 800KB 3.5" disks are recorded using GCR (group
code recording) and cannot be read using a PC disk controller (which uses
MFM [modified frequency modulation]).

Apple/Mac 1.44MB 3.5" disks are MFM and so the data can be read on a PC.
I do not know the name of the software required to do this.
