Proline and Command Timeout
I haven't seen much discussion of Proline BBS software on here, but I'm
hoping there are some Proline system sysops reading this that can help me
out with a problem.
I run the BBS for our local Apple II user group. We have been running
Proline software and using Crash as a host for a couple of years. At
first, everything worked pretty well. Gradually, we began getting "COMMAND
TIMEOUT" errors when connecting to get the newsgroups. We changed from a
phone connection to telneting in to the account and that eleviated the
problem for a while but lately it has been getting worse again. I have
contacted support at crash but they have been no help. The problem is to
the point that today out of seven connects I have managed to get 5 batches out
of 31 and this is typical. Many times it will start sending the first batch
and timeout before even finishing that first one. I have tried various
configurations of mdss, increasing timing tolerances ect. but to no avail.
I'm beginning to think either Proline is crap or Crash has just gotten too
busy to properly service it's subscribers. If anyone else is having this
problem and/or has a solution, I would appreciate hearing from them. I am
seriously considering changing both software and service providers.
