The book "Understanding the Apple II" from Quality Software has a good
overview of the video circuitry. The companion book "Understanding the
Apple IIe" (which I have) has a similar section. The IIe combined
most of the video circuitry into a single ASIC (the IOU), so the II+
book is likely to be more appropriate for your interest.
