BASIS Computer

I was recently handed a surplus BASIS computer to evaluate its usefulness
for a handicapped children's program.

Does anybody recognize this brand?  I understand that it's an Apple clone
from Germany.  

It will respond to immediate basic commands (LET = 3+5 , PRINT Z),
but errors when attempting to RUN a program (10 LET = 3+5 , 20 PRINT Z).

I would appreciate any help you can give me.
