Help! Trying to Read Old 5.25" Apple IIc Floppy!
At my urging, a friend just bought a new Macintosh
to replace his old Apple IIc. He would like to transfer
the files on the 5.25" disks over to the hard drive
on the new machine. I'm trying to help him.
Here's what I have to work with:
A Centris 650 Macintosh running system 7.1(Mine)
A Performa 6200 running system 7.5 (His)
A DaynaFile 5.25" Floppy Drive (Borrowed From Work)
Here's what I have tried:
*Hooked the DaynaFile up to the serial port on my Centris.
*Put any of his floppies into the Dayna, but the Centris does
not recognize them (of course) and offers to format them
for Macintosh (I decline the offer.)
*Run AppleFileExchange and then insert any floppy. The
Centris still does not recognize them, but offers to format
them as Macintosh, MSDos, or ProDos. (I decline again.)
*Run PCExchange and then insert the floppy. It doesn't
recognize the disk either and will not allow me to select
files from the disk for translation.
Comments:
I thought Apple II disks _were_ formatted as ProDos. Shouldn't
AppleFileExchange recognize them?
Is the problem possibly that I have a high density floppy drive
reader (the DaynaFile) but the disks are double density?
People have suggested opening the disk from within various
applications which may or may not have the ability to translate
formats, but this assumes that the disk is already visible
to the finder. (It isn't.)
ANY IDEAS?!?!?!?
Thanks in advance,
Randy
