DeskJet/Parallel Card

Two quick questions:

  1) If I get a DeskJet 500 (with serial & parallel ports), how painful 
will it be to use it with a serial connection on my GS?

  2) Secondly, assuming this is too slow for practical use, which 
parallel card is recommended (and still available)?
