Zip chip death

Greetings!

I did post an inquiry a week agao & got no response, so perhaps no one 
has experienced a zip chip failure? My hint was AW would hang on certain 
functions, so I ran the zip test on the zip utilities disk & sure enough, 
it failed. However, at other times, it still passes.

So I guess I am curious about the internittent nature of the failure & 
what I might expect in future, as well as possible solutions. Alll ideas 
welcome, thanks!
