Apple IIGS

I have read this group for a while now, and looked at various
WEB-pages about the GS, but I have still not found any place
specifying the GS hardware/OS etc.
Since I am interested in 8-bit computers in general, and don't
own a GS I'd like to know if it's worth trying to get one...
SO: please guide me to a place where I can lay my hands on
GS info!
