sider hard drive

LH>Well I have this problem with this drive and hope someone can help me. I
LH>aquired this drive about a week ago and the only way I could use it is
LH>plug the card into slot 6 and access it that way. But yesterday I got a
LH>funny clicking sound out of the Sider and have not figured out what it
LH>is. The Sider won't operate so it looks like its something internal so if
LH>someone who has had this same problem or who know what is wrong please
LH>leave me a message here.

If the clicking is towards the front of the case, then it's possible that you
have one of the orginal Sider drives. The old drives included a "speed brake"
which was engaged when the power was turned off to slow down/stop the hard
drive from spinning. These speed brake had a bad habit of filing and
intermittinently engaging either causing a clicking sound (and causing the
drive not to spin up to/maintain speed properly or not spin up at all. If you
are handy with a soldering iron, just remove the 'speed brake'.

If the clicking is in the back of the case, then the power supply is failing
and will need to be replaced by another. THe power supply was extremely prone
to fail :(
